1Voice - Communicating Together held its first event in December 2000, a family weekend in Blackpool. The families there said that, "1Voice is a MUST" and the organisation has been growing ever since.

We became registered charity number 1087615 in 2001.

1Voice supports children and families through:

Events

We currently hold two events a year, but increasing demand means that smaller, local groups are forming, meaning more events for more people. Check the "For the Diary" section for upcoming events.

Our events aim to cater for all members of the family including brothers, sisters, parents, partners, grandparents, cousins and friends. Some families like to bring along their Teaching Assistant, Speech & Language Therapist or other interested professional.

Email Support Group

A yahoo support group that allows people to discuss AAC and related issues. Join the group by clicking here and send your message to the group address, which will automatically distribute your message to all the group members.

The group is a forum for people to support each other and share perspectives and experiences. It is a place for discussion and the sharing of ideas.

Some members of the group have a professional interest in communication aids, but they do not give advice or therapeutic intervention. Rather, they are welcome to participate as human beings who bring ideas and experience, and who are willing to share views and ideas with parents.

We hope to foster a positive and supportive atmosphere of discussion.

Emails that are circulated are the views of the individual authors, and do not necessarily reflect the views and policies of 1 Voice--Communicating Together.

Newsletter

Produced in the Spring and Autumn and distributed to members.

Role Models

It is incredibly hard work to learn to use a communication aid. Our team of Role Models successfully use AAC in their lives. Role Models help to run 1Voice. At events, Role Models are vital, not only for motivating the children and young people, but also for raising expectiations of families and professionals.

Teenagers' Support

Workshops allow teenagers to develop their thoughts, ideas and skills. We hope they will choose to be 1Voice Role Models in the future!
